Hello! Thank you for stopping by.
My name is Amber Flockhart and I'm an illustrator based in Kent, UK. I started drawing since I could hold a pencil, and as I progressed through school I took to fine art - in both GCSEs and A-Levels.
Illustration was a side hobby for me that I started to develop more in my Graphics A-Level from 2019-2021. From here, I went on to complete a degree in Illustration and Animation at the University For the Creative Arts in Canterbury.
As an illustrator, I'm inspired by Tudor history, nature, the old masters and the Pre-Raphaelites (John William Waterhouse is my favourite painter!), florals, antiques, fairytales, myths... From my deep love of history, I tend to explore subjects which concern the connection of the old to the new - how do we relate to these queens from five-hundred years ago? Why do we share the same trials and tribulations, the same stigmatisation as them? And of course, the fascination that people, have always just been people.
Through my time at university, and a lot of trial with different mediums, I typically illustrate digitally or with mixed media (primarily watercolour, gouache and coloured pencil). I also dabble in ceramic making and painting.
Thus far, I have had the fabulous opportunity to work with SeadogBooks, creating posters for events and their website. I have also worked with CAMHS during a live brief university project, creating work for NELFT and young children and teens who are struggling with their mental health.
When I am not developing my skills in illustration, you'll most likely find me on a walk in nature or exploring some historical place or manor house; or in my bedroom listening to music or nose deep in a book (probably to do with the Tudors).
